I and my husband, Russell, started our love story with this not so typical type of relationship, the Long Distance Relationship. Year 2013 when we first met at The SM Store Rosales here in Pangasinan, he was a phone sales agent and I was one of the shop’s customers back then.
We became virtual friends
We became online friends through Facebook and started sharing any topic under the sun. Our virtual friendship stayed just online and we never see each other again. We’ve been in touch for almost two years from the day he added me on Facebook but lost our communication in early quarter of 2015. Little did I know he and his family already migrated to USA.
The love begins
Last quarter of 2015, we started talking again and he courted me via Messenger and phone calls. I was hesitant at first because of the setup, the LDR. I gave it a chance to know him more and, Viola!, I started to love everything about him. February 2016, he went home to the Philippines to meet me and there I made our relationship official, we became lovers.
We got married and now building a Family
I fear that like other relationships I was in, before this, this one too will fail! But he says no matter what happens, he will not let me go. I trust his words. We take time from our very busy schedules to keep the relationship ticking. Yes, we also have our share of arguments but we decided to stick with each other no matter what happens. September 13, 2017 we got married and we now have a 1 year and 5 months old baby boy named Liam Ranz. Our son is the best gift we ever had and he strengthens our relationship. He is our inspiration to do more great things for our family.
To all the couples with a Long Distance Relationship, I am telling you it’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it. LDR is hard but it is also incredible. If you can love, trust, respect, and support each other from a distance, then you’ll be unstoppable once you’re physically together.
We are not with each other’s presence but we know in our hearts that love will keep us going. We are now in the process of making rid of the distance between us. I can say that Long Distance Relationship is all worth it if you really love each other.
The longer you wait for something, the more you appreciate it when you get it. Because anything worth having is always worth the wait.
Below are the hacks that keep our Long Distance Relationship works:
- Put God as the center of your relationship
- Make healthy communication your first priority.
- Love your partner sincerely
- Stay honest with each other. Trust is THE most important thing
- Keep each other updated, video-call regularly
- Make visits to each other.
- Be positive
