Officially Homeschooling

Ever since, I wanted to homeschool my daughter but I kept on delaying it because I know that it is a big responsibility. We have activities at home even before this pandemic but what I really want is to officially homeschool – meaning not go to a regular school and we, her parents, will be her teachers at home.  I was hesitant at first because I was afraid that she won’t be able to socialize with kids her age (since she interacts with only grown-ups at home) but meeting some homeschooled kids proved that it’s not true. Homeschooled kids are actually friendly. They are also not afraid to express themselves. I know homeschooling is not for everyone. It’s not easy. That’s why I list down our reasons why we should homeschool.

1. Homeschooling is more than just academics. Most of us want our children to excel in their academics and there’s nothing wrong with that. But we realized character is more important. Thus, spending time with them and building relationships are important.

2. We want to encourage her to find her interests. At her age (4 years old), she wants to try everything. As she grows older, I want her to explore what she really wants to do and not because she’s required to.

3. Our child’s safety. As we all know, this pandemic is a threat. I’m not comfortable with the numbers from the news plus unavailability of vaccines.
