Tangbao or soup buns is one of the most popular dumplings here in Taiwan that was originated in China.
If you are a food lover why not try this food when you travel in Taiwan. Stores are located around cities, near schools or universities, houses, markets and night markets.
Tangbao is made up of thin tender skin bun filling with meat, seafood or vegetables alongside the savory broth. You can enjoy whichever flavor you choose however there are many kinds of dumplings around Taiwan. For me, I’m familiar with four flavors which are;
1. Xiǎo lóng tāng bāo 小籠湯包 or pork soup bun- The best seller dumpling among others. This is a must try food choice, I’m pretty sure you love it. Thin skin, juicy filling with selected premium meats.

2.Beef soup bun 牛肉湯包 – in my observation this flavor is popular to younger Taiwanese people they love to buy this than the other flavor. Filled with pure beef and hand-picked tendons and mix with butter golden ratio. The skin is slightly embellished with fine black tea powder.

This food can be eaten for breakfast, lunch snack or for dinner. But for Taiwanese people they preferred to eat this during winter season because of it’s newly cook to serve and of course hot.
This is how they cook, they used bamboo pottery to steamed the Tangbao to maintain the firmness and texture of the bun. I think 9 minutes is the maximum time for cooking.
